What limits the life span of a battery? This is an important question because batteries constitute a significant part of our solar energy system. Without a good battery we cant store energy for use during times we need access to energy, especially at night. Batteries are still very expensive and how we use them determines their life span. 

All battery manufacturers have tested their batteries and have documented how they should be charged, discharged and maintained. If you follow these guidelines you will increase the chances of your battery lasting longer, 3 to 5 years or even longer. If you ignore these conditions you will soon find that your battery's capacity falls quickly. A battery that would last you 10 hours for example will start to give 2 to 4 hours only and eventually less than an 1hr before it dies.
